Alastair's sweets vow for charity
Alastair Sledge, nine, gave up sweets for a month in order to raise money to help cure people with leprosy.
Alastair, of Pinewood Close, Gerrards Cross, raised £111 in sponsorship from family and friends.
His trickiest time was Halloween when he had to resist eating any of the mountain of sweets he collected while trick or treating.
Mother Sue Sledge said: "He went out with his friends and got the usual obscene amount of sweets in his bucket, and he couldn't touch them until the following day. Also at school, children bring in sweets on their birthdays. I think he found it tougher than he thought it would be. "
Alastair, a pupil of Gerrards Cross Church of England School in Morelands Drive, Gerrards Cross, has in the last three years made a total of £316 for The Leprosy Mission. Each week he donates a pound of his pocket money and in March he gave a power point presentation during a coffee morning at Gerrards Cross Methodist Church, Oak End Way, raising £94.
He became inspired to help sufferers of leprosy after the charity LEPRA came in to school during an assembly when he was six.
