Exhibition to protect Gerrards Cross

South Bucks District Council (SBDC) has drawn up a plan to extend the village's conservation area, but the plan has been put out to consultation and is dependent on the support of Gerrards Cross residents if it is to be implemented.

Harvey Parr and Justin Hunt, who organised the GX2006 exhibition to mark the centenary of the village's railway, got the ball rolling on the plan when they wrote to SBDC and Gerrards Cross parish council, asking for the conservation area to be extended.
A protected area was put in place in Gerrards Cross common in 1987 but the new proposals include a lot of areas which are not part of the current site, as well as excluding some areas that are.
Mr Parr said: "I have had a lot of positive feedback about these plans since they were announced. I think that this is something that people in Gerrards Cross are very keen to happen so I very much hope that people come along to the exhibition to see exactly what is proposed and to give their views.
"It would be a terrible shame now that these plans have been drawn up if people did not show any interest or support for them."
SBDC have also proposed that as well as extending the current conservation area in the common, a new Gerrards Cross Centenary Conservation Area also be drawn up, which would include a much larger area of land.
Places to be conserved near the common would include St James' Church and churchyard, the whole of Shire House and West Common, the whole of the Memorial Centre and Marsham Lodge.
Meanwhile, the land to be protected in the large new Gerrards Cross Centenary Conservation Area will include sections of Bulstrode Way, the train station, St Mary's School and parts of the Packhorse Road.
The exhibition takes place at the Memorial Centre on November 29 and 30, or you can visit www.southbucks.gov.uk to leave your comments on the plans.
