Parking rage in Gerrards Cross

22241284 GX-Parking.jpgA week after two police officers were assaulted in Gerrards Cross after a parking row, it has emerged that parking rage is happening frequently in the village.
Seven police cars descended on Packhorse Road at around 1pm on November 5 after what police believe was a row over parking.

According to shop workers who witnessed the incident, parking rage is common.
Two weeks ago a shopper who mistakenly took up two bays in Packhorse Road returned to find "You Selfish B*****d" written on the side of her car in marker pen said a shop worker who asked not to be named.
Kevin Edwards, of Saffron in Station Road, called police when a woman blocked his car showroom entrance and refused to move in September.
He said: "Then she called the police and said I was threatening her. All we had done was ask her to move. A dropped curb means you're not allowed to park. Most of the time we put one of our own cars there but sometimes we put cones and people move them and park."
Patricia Matthews, owner of Patricia, said: "People park in the disabled parking bay outside our shop who aren't supposed to. Some of our customers who really are disabled find that they can't."
In May a woman assaulted an officer over a parking ticket after she parked on double yellow lines outside the NatWest bank.
David Peters, chairman of Gerrards Cross Parish Council, said: "The police do a very good job for the village and it's shocking when they are attacked for doing so."
A review of parking in Gerrards Cross is being done by John Charlton, head of parking at Buckinghamshire County Council. He met parish councillors on Tuesday.
He said of parking rage: "There are plenty of places to park in Gerrards Cross. This happens because people are unwilling to pay for car parks away from the shops and walk."
He is looking at various improvements including taking away single yellow lines to free up spaces and changing some one hour bays in streets off Packhorse Road to two hour bays.
