Plans for Gerrards Cross Waitrose
Plans have been submitted to South Bucks District Council for a proposed Gerrards Cross Waitrose store after months of delays.
The plans for the 13,500 sq ft store in Station Road, are also set to include 31 residential apartments which would face onto Oak End Way.
Earlier this year, there was speculation that Waitrose and developer Frontier Estates was set to pull out of the plan after a disagreement arose between them and SBDC over parking.
The store had not planned to provide any parking, feeling there were adequate public spaces available, but SBDC stated that it wanted parking to be provided at the store.
The new plans have tried to address this by increasing the amount of car parking spaces for residents in the apartments and the promise that the situation will be reviewed in the future.
Tony Williamson, director of Frontier Estates, said: "We are aware that car parking is a sensitive issue locally and see our solution as both sensible and realistic. We are happy that the plans now accurately reflect the views of the local community and look forward to working with local residents to make this a scheme of which we can all feel proud."
As well as displaying the plans at a public exhibition earlier this year, Frontier also undertook a number of independent parking surveys, which it says shows there is already adequate parking capacity in the village for the number of shoppers the company expects the store to generate.
The revisions have also reduced the height of the building by one floor so that is more in keeping with the character of Oak End Way, which the shop will overlook.
However, with Tesco also set to open in the village in the future, Frontier has said it will review the issue when Waitrose opens.
A statement from Frontier said: "Both companies understand that shopper car-parking patterns may change as result of other developments due to take place in Gerrards Cross. Consequently, Frontier Estates and Waitrose have pledged to provide additional funding should the ongoing review demonstrate the need for accessibility improvements in the future."
If the pans are approved by SBDC, the store would create around 140 jobs and is expected to open by the end of summer 2010.
