Tesco has moved to smooth its relationship with the people of Gerrards Cross by giving a £6,500 donation to the village.
The retail giant, set to open a massive shop in Packhorse Road, has given £6,500 to the cost of the village's Christmas lights appeal.
The cash has been used to repair and improve the lights in the town to ensure that they are brought up-to-date to meet safety standards.
Michael Kissman, Tesco corporate affairs manager, said: "I hope the lights will be enjoyed by all the people of Gerrards Cross over the festive season.
"As people will have seen, we are now making significant progress with our development in Gerrards Cross and we hope that in a couple of years time, Tesco will be playing an even more active role, as retailer, in the Traders Association."
Peter Banner, a director of the village's Traders Association, said: "We are very grateful for all the donations made to this year's appeal by traders, residents and the local councils. Tesco and their construction partner Costain have been particularly generous."

Given that £6,500 is loose change to an organisation such as Tesco, I as a local resident and opponant of the Tesco development, object to this donation, which smacks of being little more than a thinly disguised bribe, being accepted, used in this way and publicised.
