Bucks County Council slammed by one of its own

David Meacock, of Bucks County Council, has slammed the planning enforcement department of the council for not using their powers to stop lorries making a section of the A40 muddy.

He says that vehicles leaving the gravel extraction site at Wapseys Wood are causing the road to become a mess when it rains, and has attempted to make the council act to solve the problem, but has had no success.
He also believes that the section of the Packhorse Road by the Tesco site is suffering from the same problem, and says that he is sick of BCC's inaction in dealing with the problem.
He said: "Everyone is fed up to the back teeth with having cars needlessly dirtied from mud on the highway by the operators of both of these sites. Every time there is heavy rainfall the problem comes back again.
"The wheels of these lorries should be cleaned before they leave the sites, because otherwise you are left with the problems that we are currently getting.
The planning section of BCC's website says that breaches of planning conditions can include "lorries depositing mud on roads when they leave a site," but Mr Meacock is angry that no permanent action has been taken to solve the problem.
He added: "Myself and other councillors have been trying to sort this problem out for many years but nothing has been done by the BCC planning enforcement department and the Highways Agency. If all we are going to get is inaction from BCC planning enforcement, we might as well scrap the department and have a commensurately lower council tax.
"The muddy length of roads in the immediate vicinity of these sites are absolute proof that the department is an ineffective waste of space. The same goes for the Highways Agency, which is the other enforcement body."
Martin Tett, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, said: "We take complaints like this very seriously. Our officers have investigated this site and confirmed that it has wheel washing facilities, and these are well used.
"Whilst we have had complaints from the public in the past we have not received any recently. If any member of the public has a specific complaint, and can give us details, we will take this up with the contractor."
