Tesco gets its final go ahead
Supermarket giants Tesco have received permission from Network Rail to rebuild the collapsed tunnel in Gerrards Cross and push forward with its plans for a store in the village.
The approval is a vital stage in the project as it now means that Costain, the contractor for the store, can now replace the tunnel segments, remove and replace fill material and the pouring of concrete to create the reinforced concrete arch structure which will sit on top of the existing tunnel structure.
Michael Kissman, spokesman for Tesco, said: "We are pleased that this important approval is in place and we can continue the construction work which has already started on site.
"We look forward to completing the work and opening the store."
Advance work on the site has been taking place throughout 2008 and the work to replace the tunnel, which collapsed in 2005, will begin in early 2009.

Much as I was vehemantly against the Tesco development, since it is obviously now become a fait a compli, I suppose it's better to have the disgusting building site of the partial collapse at least finished, rather than the eye sore we've been faced with for the last 5yrs
