MacMillan annual meeting

MacMillan Cancer Support will hold its Annual General Meeting on March 10.
Anyone interested in the charity's work is invited to attend and learn more about the group, which also operates in Chalfont St Peter, Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Giles and Stoke Poges.
The meeting takes place at the Methodist Church Hall, Oak End Way at 8pm.

GX-High-Notes.jpgA music group for toddlers is on its way to Gerrards Cross.
Highnotes classes are soon to start at St Mary's School in Packhorse Road, having previously operated in other areas across South Bucks.
The lessons, which will be taken by Louise Cook, will last half an hour and are aimed at the under fives.

Car fire in Black Park Road

Firefighters were called to Black Park Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning to put out a car fire.
It is believed that arson was the cause of the blaze, which was reported at 12.56am.
A team from Gerrards Cross arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.

Gerrards Cross Flower Club

The Gerrards Cross Flower Club held a meeting on February 18, which saw an area demonstrator visit the group.
Jackie Warren filled the stage at the Colston Hall in the Memorial Centre with six arrangements of many different colours and varieties.

War hero and artist remembered

23016703 Hugh-Micklem.jpgA memorial service was held on Friday, February 20 at Chalfont St Peter Parish Church for the artist Hugh Micklem of Slade Oak Lane, Gerrards Cross, who died on January 21, shortly after his 90th birthday party.
Like other men who reach this age, Hugh served in the second World War. He volunteered for the army aged 21 in 1939. The following year he was at Dunkirk and as an officer had to see the men he was responsible for safely onto the evacuating ships.

Children are being invited to a special fun run event set to take place at Thorpe House School.
The school, in Oval Way, will host the event, which has been organised by the village rotary club and the Misbourne Matins.

GX-Oliver.jpgChildren from a Gerrards Cross drama group managed to raise hundreds of pounds for charity with a special production.
The group performed the classic musical Oliver! at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Chalfont St Peter at the end of January and managed to raise £800 for a children's hospice in Oxford in the process.

A dog show and summer fair usually held at Pinewood Studios has had to be cancelled.
The event is the main fundraiser for the area's RSPCA but Pinewood Studios has said it can no longer afford to cater for charities.
Irene Hansford, chaiwoman of the branch, said: "We've had a real body blow, its our major fundraising event of the year.
"What we are desperate for now is a new venue. We need somewhere with parking for about 800 cars. The day usually brings in about £8,000 which is essential to us."

22886896 Pinewood-2.jpgPinewood Studios was revelling in the Oscar limelight this week when two of its sound mixers picked up awards.
Ian Trapp and Richard Pryke won the Academy Award for their achievements working on the multi-award winning Slumdog Millionaire at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.
This follows their recent success at the BAFTAs, where the team, who are based at the studios in Iver Heath, won another prize for its achievements on Danny Boyle's film.
