Inter-faith talk held at Methodist Church
An Orthodox Jew and a Muslim community leader, both from Israel, shared the platform as guest speakers at Gerrards Cross Methodist Church on Monday, March 16.
Eliayahu McLean Rodef Shalom and Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari belong to Jerusalem Peacemakers, a multi-faith organisation that aims to promote peace across the religious and political divide in the Holy Land.
Both men were invited to Gerrards Cross to talk about their work helping to bring about reconciliation between the two sides in Israel and Palestine.
The evening was organised by Ministers Together and was attended by 90 people, including parishioners from across the Christian denominations in Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross and Denham, representatives from the Rotary club, from the Council of Christians and Jews and from Thames Valley Police.
Rev Kelly Allen, minister of St Andrew's United Reform Church, said: "It was a fantastic turnout, we had people from the three major faiths and those with no religious affiliation.
"The speakers were thought-provoking and stimulating and are deeply spiritual and peaceful people. Their talks were followed by 30 minutes of questions from the floor."
The Rev Allen said that a collection of £340 was taken on the evening, which will be donated to Jerusalem Peacemakers and that she hopes to arrange similar events in the future.
