Gerrards Cross firefighter to take on marathon

A FIREFIGHTER from Gerrards Cross is set to take part in the gruelling London marathon in order to raise money for charity.
Denis Melia, watch manager at Gerrards Cross fire station, will run the gruelling 26 mile course on Sunday, in order to raise money for the Action on Pre-Eclampsia charity.

He has been training three to four times a week and has already notched up a 22 mile run from his home in Gerrards Cross.
Mr Melia's training route, which takes in Beaconsfield, Windsor, High Wycombe and Slough, has also been completed by his dog Ted, who has managed to run 20 miles with his marathon running owner.
Pre-eclampsia is a condition affecting pregnant women, and Mr Melia has decided to try and raise money for sufferers after his wife suffered some difficulties while pregnant with their son Joe.
Mr Melia took part in the marathon in 2007 and says that this year he aims to finish in less than four and a half hours.
He said: "I've raised £500 so far through the incredible generosity of family, friends and colleagues, and am really hoping to raise another £500 before the day of the race.
"I fully realise that everyone is a bit strapped for cash at the moment but any size donation is appreciated and valued as much as the next so whatever you might be able to spare, please know that I am extremely grateful for it."
