Tank descends on Gayhurst School

CHILDREN in Gerrards Cross school got a shock this week when a group of soldiers descended on their school in a tank.
Pupils at Gayhurst School in Bull Lane were visited by the Blues and Royals regiment, who brought a Scimitar tank along with them.

The event was in aid of the Help for Heroes charity and the Household Cavalry Operations Casualty Fund, charities which Camilla Lennon, a teacher at the school's nursery, is set to raise money for.
She will ride her bike in the Band of Brothers sponsored cycle ride, which will see her cycling around 350 miles from Cherbourg to Paris, tracing some of the region's most famous Second World War battle sites, including the Northern beaches around Armomanches and the area south of Caen.
The trek finishes by cycling through central Paris, via the Arc De Triomphe before finishing at the Eiffel Tower.
At the visit on Tuesday, children not only got to meet the soldiers and explore the tank, but were also able to see two tents, each displaying items such as body armour, helmets, sights and night vision goggle, which the youngsters were allowed to try on.
Headmaster Andrew Sims said: "We felt that it was important for our pupils to understand what our armed services do for our country and the enormous risks they expose themselves to as a result.
"Today's visit was to raise funds and awareness for the Help for Heroes campaign, which is Gayhurst is keen to embrace and support. The visiting heroes complete with a Scimitar tank made for a very exciting day at school."
