Thorpe House crowned champions of the region
A GERRARDS Cross school has won an inaugural football contest to be crowned the best team in the Home Counties.
Thorpe House school beat Long Close of Berkshire in the first ever Home Counties Shield, played at the ground of Chalfont St Peter AFC.
The team eventually thrashed the visitors from Berkshire 7-0 following a sensational second half performance, for which Elliot Adams was voted man of the match.
The idea for the contest came from Sean Day, a PE teacher at the school.
Anthony Lock, the school's headmaster, said: "It is our intention to develop the competition into an annual event open to South Bucks and Berks district teams. The link with Chalfont St Peter AFC provides a wonderful opportunity for the boys to play competitive football at a semi-professional ground and a foundation on which to foster relationships with schools throughout the community."
Any schools interested in taking part in next year's event should contact Sean Day a sday@thorpehouse.bucks.sch.uk
