Century old house set for demolition

A HOUSE which dates back to the Edwardian era could soon be demolished if a controversial planning application is granted.
Four Winds, in Bulstrode Way, Gerrards Cross, has been earmarked for demolition so that a replacement house can be built there instead.

This has angered nearby residents, who are concerned about the heritage of their road, which was built in the early 1900s.
They are also incensed because the street was included in the recently established conservation area for the village, which was meant to make new development in the area difficult.
The proposal is set to be discussed at a forthcoming meeting of South Bucks District Council's (SBDC's) planning committee, and residents have written to the council and started petitions urging them to reject the idea.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "It would be darkly ironic if this building which has stood for 100 years should be knocked down a few weeks after it becomes part of the conservation area.
"If the council doesn't stop this, the conservation area isn't worth the paper it's written on and other residents of Gerrards Cross should understand that."
Final consent for the demolition of Four Winds is set to be decided by the end of this week, and builders are poised to begin work on the property.
Permission for a replacement building at the site was already granted by SBDC on December 18 last year.
