Pensioner off to Vegas
A GERRARDS Cross pensioner is set to take a trip to the gambling capital of the world to take part in an international poker tournament.
Max Winberg, 72, is flying out to Las Vegas today (Thursday) to compete against players from all over the world.
Mr Winberg's journey began when he used his winnings from a bet that Arsenal would beat Chelsea to enter an online poker contest.
He won, and as such was given the chance to join a team of 100 European poker players making the trip to Las Vegas.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to it, but I am slightly concerned that I may have used up all my luck before the tournament has even begun.
"I'm not a professional poker player but I do seem to be quite good at it. It is a combination of luck and skill and I'm really looking forward to going out there and seeing the standard of the other players."
The European team is set to be led by former snooker world champion Steve Davis, and the winner of the tournament will scoop more than $7m.
Mr Winberg said: "Las Vegas is going to be great. I am a fan of boxing, and Vegas is obviously where all the best boxing takes place. Combine that with a few games of poker and I'm going to be very happy."
