Tesco row at parish council meeting
TWO GERRARDS Cross residents have spoken of their concerns that the effect the Tesco construction is having on the village.
Ros Hurn and Graham Hoenes spoke at the Gerrards Cross parish council meeting on Monday night to tell councillors of their fears.
They asked the parish council for their support to ensure that Tesco and developer Costain keep the area around their construction site tidier than it currently is.
Ms Hurn said: "There are so many lorry movements in and out of that site every single day and as such the state of Packhorse Road is getting worse and worse.
"I have spoken to business owners along the road who have told me that it is having an effect on their trade because the road near the site is so filthy."
She said that some of the worst effected businesses are cafes and restaurants with outside seating, who are finding that people do not want to sit outside to eat with the road being so dirty.
"We do not want to delay the development, the sooner it is over the better, but Tesco and Costain are not being good neighbours."
Mr Hoenes added: "The lorries that come and go from the site are supposed to have their wheels properly cleaned before leaving the site so as not to leave dirt on the road, but that is very obviously not happening.
"I find it heavily ironic that this week is the 40th anniversary of the moon landings. Apparently, we have the technology to put a man on the moon but Tesco and Costain do not have the ability to effectively clean the wheels of a lorry."
Ms Hurn and Mr Hoenes asked the parish council for their support in encouraging South Bucks District Council (SBDC) to fight for residents on the issue.
However, chairman David Peters said: "We are happy to work with you if produce some evidence of this, but until then, there is not much point in us going to SBDC. You need to produce evidence of what you are saying and then we can move forward."
