Raft of measures to improve traffic flow in Beaconsfield proposed
A RAFT of measures to improve traffic flow in Beaconsfield are likely to be pushed forward by Beaconsfield Town Council.
An "action plan" includes making improving flow at a notoriously congested roundabout at the junction of the A355 and the M40 where long tailbacks occur every rush hour.
It also includes investigating putting in a zebra crossing at Station Road to improve safety for children walking to Beaconsfield High School, The Beacons field School and Butlers Court School - something all three schools have been asking for for years.
The wish list has been published in a new draft report by consultants Jacobs who were hired by Beacons field Town Council, and the district and county council, to highlight what how conditions could best be improved for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists on a realistic budget.
The report does not recommend taking any action at the Led borough Lane/A355 junction which so many residents say is dangerous - because accident figures do not warrant it. There were six "slight" accidents there in the three years to November 2008.
Included in the "action plan" are traffic calming on Station Road and Penn Road by way of central hatching, and traffic calming in Burke Road, Gregories Road, Candle mas Lane and Holt spur Top Lane by installing kerb build outs. The pavement on the railway bridge should be widened. Cycle lanes should be put along the B474 through Beacons field (although not in the town centre) and along the A40 between North Drive and Wycombe End, the report says.
Councillor Geoff Grover pushed for the report to be undertaken. He said the most significant improvements would be to the Old Town roundabout where the A40 meets the A355. Here, the report suggests making Lakes Lane one way but says that putting in traffic lights would make matters worse.
He said that when the final report is published, Beacons field Town Council would push Buckinghamshire County Council to provide funding.
