A MOTHER from Beaconsfield has taken advantage of new facilities at Bucks New University to return to nursing. The establishment is one of the first universities in the UK where thousands of students watch lectures on line at home. Interview by Polly Manser

PEOPLE living in the Buckinghamshire countryside are bracing themselves for the release of detailed plans to within 25 metres of the new high speed rail route that is to cut through the Chilterns.


A motorist and a passenger were injured after their car flipped over onto its roof in a crash on Windsor Road at 6.20am on Sunday.
Both patients was taken to Wexham Park Hospital but their injuries are not believed to be serious, a police spokesman said. A spokesman for South Central Ambulance was unable to comment on the severity of injuries.

POLICE have issued a warning to drivers after crashes in continuing icy conditions.
Motorists are being urged to take into account the road and weather conditions on their journeys today.

DRIVERS have paid tribute to the efforts of residents across Bucks who helped them while they were struggling to get home during the snowfall on Monday night.
Commuters faced a battle to get home, and some were forced to abandon their cars, but many people left the comfort of their homes to go and help those in trouble.

Snow causes traffic chaos

DRIVERS across Buckinghamshire have faced nightmare journeys as the county experienced some of its worst snowfall in recent memory.
On Monday afternoon, heavy snow began to fall for the second time in a week, resulting in roads that had been starting to thaw out freezing up again.

SCHOOLS across Bucks have been forced to close today after the county was covered in heavy snowfall overnight.
Roads have been affected and journeys made more hazardous by the conditions forcing many schools to close a day early for Christmas term.

Gritters have been despatched to Chesham and Amersham to try and ease driving conditions.

TWENTY ONE people have been arrested in a pre-Christmas crackdown to tackle burglary, robbery and vehicle crime across the district and surrounding areas.

RUMOURS are circulating in the Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross area that Mike Tyson could be moving to the area.
The former heavyweight world champion, who bit off part of the ear of opponent Evander Holyfield during a fight in 1997, is set to spend six months in the UK next year on the after dinner speaking circuit.
