TWENTY ONE people have been arrested in a pre-Christmas crackdown to tackle burglary, robbery and vehicle crime across the district and surrounding areas.

Charges made under Operation Grip include burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possession of class A and B drugs, possessing a class B drug with intent to supply and failing to appear at court.
Police have also seized three cars which they believe were used in crimes, and have recovered three more which had been reported stolen.
Detective Inspector Mark Lynch, leading Operation Grip, said : "Historically, there is a significant increase in crime in the run-up to Christmas and we would like to remind residents that it is risky to leave property on display in their homes and cars, in particular sat navs, laptops, mobile phones, hand bags, presents or cash.
"We are also visiting businesses which are at particular risk of burglary or where people's cars are vulnerable to being broken into, such as golf clubs, pubs and restaurants.
"The number of people we have arrested shows that we are making
rapid progress in identifying those responsible for crime in the area and we are determined to bring them to justice. The vast majority of crime is committed by a tiny of offenders and we are pursuing them."
