Quick thinking team stops fire spreading
A ROOF fire at a house in Denham was prevented from spreading due to the quick thinking 0f fire fighters at the scene.
Crews from Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and Hillingdon were called to Old Mill Road shortly before 8am on Saturday, January 9.
Station manager John Bull, who attended the scene, said: "They had to contend with extremely icy roads to attend the incident, and the snow and ice at the scene caused problems for crews moving around with their equipment.
"A crew of two from Gerrards Cross wearing breathing apparatus entered the loft space while the London crew pitched a ladder to the roof and started removing tiles to gain access to the fire from outside.
"The actions of the breathing apparatus crew applying water from the loft hatch and then from in the roof space very quickly brought the fire under control, which prevented any fire damage occurring to the rooms below.
"With the fire under control, the crews removed burning material from the loft hatch and then from in the roof space very quickly brought the fire under control, which prevented any fire damage occurring to the rooms below.
"With the fire under control, the crews removed burning material from the roof space. They used the turntable ladder as a platform to accept the loft contents from the crew inside, and then brought it down to ground level.
"It was a very good example of joint working between Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and London Fire Brigade under extremely difficult weather conditions, which prevents further damage being caused to the house and contents."
No one was hurt in the blaze, and it is not yet know how it was caused.
