Choir to hold concert for Haiti earthquake victims
A GERRARDS Cross choir is calling on people to join in with a special concert to raise money for the people affected by the Haiti earthquake disaster.
The choir has launched the Messiah 4 Haiti concert and is hoping to raise around £10,000 for the tragedy.
All the performers will be playing for free so that all money from ticket sales will go directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee Earthquake Appeal.
It is hoped that corporate and individual sponsors and programme advertisers will come forward to cover expenses such as venue hire, so that programme takings can also be donated.
Conductor David Meacock, who is also a member of Bucks County Council, said: "We all see TV pictures which perhaps have also to a degree immunised all of us against the true reality and awfulness of the situation.
"Just imagine how you'd feel if part, never mind all of your house burnt down, never mind all the death and destruction everywhere.
"Anyone has done, or had builders in to do a house extension will hate the dust, but how many times worse must the dust of destruction be there?
"Someone in my choir pointed out that this disaster is the equivalent of 70 Boeing Jumbo Jet crashes happening simultaneously."
Singers in the choir will pay £8 each to sing at the concert to help boost the funds.
The concert takes place on Saturday, March 6, with tickets costing £15 in advance and £20 on the door.
The show will be performed on Saturday, March 6, on 2010 at 7.30pm in St Clements Danes School, Chenies Road, Chorleywood.
