Village cinema to go 3D

FILM lovers in Gerrards Cross are about to take a step into the future thanks to new 3D technology being installed at the village's cinema.
The Odeon, off Packhorse Road, which celebrates its 85th birthday this year, has previously lagged behind other cinemas in the country by only being able to show films in traditional 2D. However, a new projector has been installed at the site, allowing the upgrade.

The lack of 3D technology meant that the recent blockbuster Avatar, which is now officially the highest grossing film of all time, could only be shown in 2D at the site, despite being meant to be shown in 3D.
Many cinema visitors were disappointed by this, so the cinema has upgraded, and the first film to be shown in the new format will be Alice in Wonderland by director Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp.
There had been a row between Disney, who are releasing the film, and Odeon over whether the film would be shown at all by any of its cinemas across the country, after Disney tried to lessen the amount of time between the film being released and appearing on DVD, but this has now been resolved.
Elaine Pullen, general manager of Gerrards Cross Odeon, said: "It's fantastic news that we will soon be able to offer the latest generation of technology at Gerrards Cross.
"I know that a number of guests were disappointed that we were unable to offer Avatar in 3D recently, leading us to lose out to the multiplexes.
"That is something that we intend to rectify very soon. With the recent concerns regarding Alice in Wonderland now resolved we will now be playing it as our first 3D programme from Tuesday, March 9."
Other 3D films coming up at the cinema include Toy Story 3 and next Harry Potter blockbuster.
However, all films being shown in 3D will have £2.25 added to the usual price of tickets.
